NATIONAL HARMONY URGED
LORD BLEDISLOE IN HAWKE’S BAY.
NEED TO MAINTAIN QUALITY.
By Telegraph.—Pres* Association.
Waipukurau, Last Night. The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe paid their first visit to Waipukurau to-day. They arrived by the afternoon express and were formally welcomed by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. lan Mackie) and presented with an address in the presence of representatives of central Hawke’s Bay local bodies, the Chamber of Commerce, a large assemblage of residents and settlers. Boy Scouts formed a guard of honour and the town band participated. Lord Bledisloe in the course of an address covering Dominion and Empire economic problems pointed to the need of maintaining a high quality of exports, for which there would be always a demand. Lord Bledisloe briefly traversed the trend of the Ottawa Conference and referred to the call for reciprocal trading to strengthen the purchasing ability of British consumers. “I impress upon you that the gospel of national harmony is the surest road to prosperity, happiness and security. Lord Bledisloe said. “All sections should think of -the country firiH and themselves secondly, which would be to their own advantage eventually.” • Lord Bledisloe paid a fine tribute to the Boy Scout movement for its principles of service. He mentioned his office as Dominion Chief Scout. The vice-regal party left subsequently for Napier.
