LEASING OF SECTIONS. ?■’ - The monthly meeting; of the Waitara Harbour Board was held on Monday night. Present: Messrs. J. Hine (chairman), I. J. Prichard, E. A. Dugdale, ,W- R. Johns, H. Spurdie, J. Vickery and E. C. Jones. ' ; ??.- ■. > ■ ■ \ A letter from Mr. A. J. i Mercer stated. that the sections leased by Jiim/from the .board had been damaged by fire, ; and asked as . they would be useless for. four or five* months his lease should lapse ?? until July. ■■" •' ?■ Mokau Collieries, Ltd.’s, secretary, Captain Hardy, wrote saying that the charifitl-X' of the Waitara Biver was in a bad. state/ and that 'at the last neap tides the . s’.s. Mahurangi could riot work for-six owing to there being insufficient water. He suggested that a new. channel be dug .?' out at low tide as had been -done at Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, and then'’?/ the river would make- a straighter' and better .channel. The chairman said that the scheme was'l?? impracticable,' and he moved that ‘Cap- .. tain Hardy be advised of the -..board's? ’ decision. ;■ ' . ' - ,' ‘ ?.???? In answer to the board’s request; , the. Railway Department advised that the wharf repairs would be done as soon ;?* as possible. , ' J" i ? The secretary reported that a ''fire-Had',- ? damaged the concrete mixing staging at ' < the beach and that he; waft having if repaired. .* ? ■' .-."?. On behalf of the works committee Mn i;? Hine reported that a section on the east ? beach (about'7o acres) had beeir inspect-■ : ed and had been leased to Mr. T. -Hat- ?? ? tenbury at a yearly rental, of £400; plus ‘ rates. The conditions were that the access to the beach was to remain open. . A motion by Mr. Dugdale to thank??: witnesses in the recent "Supreme Court ~ action was ruled out of order by the ' chairman. ■’■. •' ’ ■ .?'.
