AMERICANS WIN TENNIS TEST
CRAWFORD’S VICTORY OVER VINES.
RESULT OF FAULTLESS DISPLAY.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 15. The final day’s play in the tennis test saw play last till dusk. America won by six rubbers, seventeen sets, 154 games against Australia’s six rubbers, sixteen sets, 163 games. The visitors forfeited two rubbers, thus accounting for the margin of games against them. Crawford’s victory over Vines was the result of a faultless display, scarcely a mistake marring his play. Sheer tenacity against a strong opponent carried Australia through. The scores are:—
Singles: Van Ryn forfeited to McGrath 3—6, 7—5, 6—3. Doubles: Crawford and Hopman beat Van Ryn and Allison 11—9, 4—6, 6—2, 6—2; Vines and Gledhiil beat McGrath and Quist 6—2, B—6,8 —6, 6—4.
