OLD BOYS BEAT STRATFORD

STURROCK RETURNS TO DO WELL. LAY AND W. BARKER SCORE RUNS. Old Boys beat Stratford B at Hawera by five wickets and 19 runs. A feature of the game was the bowling of C. Sturrock, who, in his first game this season, took six Stratford wickets for 33 runs.

Lay and Sandford gave Stratford a good start. Lay hit out freely while Sandford, though' he did not always seem comfortable, kept his wicket up. Moloney and H. Barker could make no impression on the batsmen, so Herbert was tried. Lay helped himself to 14, so the left-hander was taken off. The partnership was broken at 66 when Thrush put a straight one past Lay. Sandford did not last much longer, but Kivell went well. With his dismissal Stratford collapsed before Sturrock and were all out for 107.

W. Barker and Moloney gave Old Boys a great start. They reached 80 by not particularly enterprising batting and it seemed that rain might stop play before the runs were scored. Barker lost his wicket in trying to force the pace, as did his brother who followed. Moloney, Thrush and Herbert soon went. Six were wanted to win when Buist went in, and he got them. off two successive loose balls from Francis. Details are:— STRATFORD B. PRITCHARD AGAIN BOWLS WELL. High School beat Hawera B by seven wickets and 93 runs. A century to Duke, the promising High School batsman, was the feature of the game. Hawera batted first and made 116. Geary batted particularly well, although he did not make much more than Hewitt or Nolan. Pritchard again bowled very steadily. Thomas was vigorous in scoring 21 of School’s first 28. Duke then livened and dominated the second wicket partnership, which took the score to 96. He continued to score brightly.
