FOURTH TENNIS TEST GAMES

BRILLIANCE OF CRAWFORD. AMERICANS IN THE LEAD. By Telegraph—Pr*M Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 10 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 13. In the final tennis test yesterday’s results are:— ' McGrath (Australia) beat Gledhill (U.S.A.) 6-2, 6—4. Allison (U.S.A.) beat Hopman (Australia) 3 —6, 6—3, 6—l. - Quist (Australia) beat Van Ryn (U.S.A-) 7—5, 6-3. Vines and Gledhill (U.S.A.) beat Crawford and Hopman (Australia) 5—7, 5—7, 6 — 2, 7—5, 6—3. There was a poor attendance. Against McGrath and Quist, Gledhill and Van Ryn respectively gave very indifferent displays and did not exert themselves in the slightest degree. They, conveyed the impression that they had too much tennis and had for the time being- lost interest.

Allison was also lethargic * opposing Hopman until, when the Australian was leading 6—3, 3—o, Hopman falling away, he won an uninteresting match. The doubles game, however, was a thrilling struggle with Crawford giving his best display for years. Hopman was out of touch and the American team work triumphed in the end. Gledhill was a dynamic force in the last three sets, volleying, smashing and driving to great effect. Crawford to-day obtained a .walk-over from Allison. Gledhill beat Quist 6-4, 7—5; Vines beat Hopman 6—3, 6—3; Allison- and Van Ryn beat McGrath and Quist 6—4, 3—6, 6—2. . Allison refrained from playing in the singles owing to slight influenza, but he fulfilled his engagement in the doubles.
