SYME SHIELD BOWLING

TOURNEY AT HAWERA PARK GREEN PARK AND HAWERA TOO GOOD. A tricky wind , blowing across the Hawera Park green called for all the skill the players might be capable of during the Syme Shield inter-club bowling competition held yesterday. Fqqr clubs play annually for the shield —Hawera, Hawera Park, Patea and Manaia. Each was represented by four teams. Since the inception of the competition in 1923 the shield has been won by the Hawera Club four times, by the Manaia club three times, and by the Park club twice. , In the first round games yesterday Park and Hawera were definitely superior to Manaia and Patea respectively, and the contest became a struggle between the two first named. Park were narrowly ahead again in the second, round, defeating Hawera by four only. Park continued their winning way in the third round and thus retained the shield for 1933. Results are: FIRST ROUND. PARK BEATS MANAIA.

SECOND ROUND. PARK BEAT HAWERA.

THIRD ROUND. PARK BEAT PATEA.

PAIRS TOURNEY AT HAWERA. McCarthy and McDonald win. A progressive pairs tournament was played on the Hawera green. McCarthy won the skips’ section and McDonald the leads’. Details are:— Skips.

BOWLING AT WAVERLEY. WANGANUI TEAM DEFEATED. Six teams from the Wanganui Bowling Club paid a visit to Waverley yesterday. The home team won. by 273 to 200. Mr. Currie, (president of the Waverley club) welcomed the visitors and Mr. Aylmer replied on their, behalf. The green was in good order and the games were keenly contested.
