KAPONGA’S MESSAGE.
“I must confess that as I see it the outlook for the New Year is far from a happy or encouraging one,” says Mr. A. R. Bates, chairman of the Kaponga Town Board. “The tendency of prices of primary products appears to be downward, and this will mean more difficulty for both individuals and corporate bodies in carrying on their accustomed operations. Politicians all the world over do not offer any constructive proposals that will aid in leading-, us to hope for better times. It behoves the people, therefore, to study for themselves the economic and financial problems, and endeavour to find new ways and means of improvement. The ingenuity of man, his determination and enterprise are surely equal to the task of getting the country’s affairs on' to a sounder footing. Often in the past these qualities have succeeded in overcoming very great obstacles and surely it is not claiming too much to believe that the forces of civilised man are capable of extricating the world from its present economic plight. In extending the best wishes .to your readers for a brighter and better year in 1933 I should like to remind all that mere goodwill and good intention alone are of little avail in improving matters, and must be linked, to the application of some sound and practicable plan of action. As far as the affairs of Kaponga township are concerned I offer my assurance to ratepayers that the position is a very satisfactory one, and we can face the futture with the greatest confidence. The district has many advantages to be thankful for, the town board’s past policy having been one of safe, steady progress year by year. With a continuation of this policy the progress of the town will be maintained, and the residents should be able to carry the financial burdens quite easily.”
