Mr. Mansour Habib Fakhry, of Becharry, Lebanon, Syria, , is visiting foglewood, where lie is the guest, of : Mrs. J. Peters.

Mr. G. Gould, Christchurch, chairman, of the New Zealand board of directors of the Union Steamship Company, and Mr. H. M. Reeves, Canterbury, arrived at New Plymouth by the mail tram last night. They will sail for Auckland to-day aboard the s.s. Ruahine.

Messrs H. W. Martin, Inglewood, and N P. Leaiand; New Plymouth, will leave to-morrow to spend the vacation on a motor camping tour, _durmg which they propose to visit Thames, Mercury. Bay, Tauranga and Rotorua, returning Ma < - Ohura.

Senior-Sergeant E. C. Turner/who has been promoted to New Plymouth, has taken up his duties in succession to Senior-Sergeant McCrotie. Before leaving Waimate Mr. and Mrs. Turner were guests at a farewell tendered b Y Mayor and Mayoress. During the gat - ering, which was representative n character, presentations were the guests. Later Mr. Turner was farewelled by Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., and members of the bar.

Eighty-one years of service for the Wanganui Girls’ College ters were brought to a close Avith_thC end of the school Mary Do - nelly, who retired in 1229, “ the college with her sister, Miss Margaret Donnelly, since its inception, her term of service being 39 years. Miso Margaret Donnelly recently handed i her resignation, having thus completed 42 years. At their meeting recently, members of the Board of. made appreciative reference to tneir work, saying that they had been conscientious, kind, and faithful workers. When speaking at the presentation, ot prizes at the college, the chairman of the board, Mr. D. McFarlane, also made reference to their long service, which he thought would not be equalled oy any other college in New Zealand.
