A NEW IDEA.
Constantia: Well, what’s the use of worry. (Walks to the piano and plays “Pack up. your troubles in your old kit bag”). (Enter Derricus, bearing a large box). Dorinda: What’s that? . Constantia: Where did you get it? Derricus: I was shovelling the earth back, and my spade struck something hard; and I dug this up, but I can’t open it. (The girls open it and extract a letter). All: A letter! Dorinda (reading aloud): Dear children,—l felt sure when I set you the impossible task of raising five hundred pounds that you would do your best to carry out my wishes. I am so pleased with your good intentions and brave efforts that I enclose herewith a few small presents for you to .give your friends—for remember, ’tis more blessed to give than to receive. Wishing you a very happy Christmas, Yours sincerely, Father Christmas.
All: Three cheers for'good old Father Christmas. Hip, hip, hurrah! Hip, hip, hurrah! Hip, hip, hurrah! (Presents . from the box are handed round to the assembled guests).
