PARTY FROM ENGLAND.

ARRIVAL NEXT FEBRUARY. • London,. Nov. • 11. Arrangements in regard to the public schools Empire tour of New Zealand have so far progressed that the staff has been Selected, a tentative itinerary drawn out, and the list of boys taking part will not be made until all applications have come in. The director is Colonel Nigel Chatteris, who was educated at Winchester College and at Christ’s College, Oxford. He served with the Royal Scots in the South African War from 1899 to 1902. He was with the Bth Royal Scots from 1907 to 1911 and instructor at the School of Musketry, Hythe, in 1913 and 1914. . He was with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in 1915, and acted as brigade major of the 14th Australian Brigade in Egypt and afterwards in France. He commanded the Ist Battalion the Royal Scots from 1926 to 1929, retiring after the completion of this service. Colonel Charteris’ assistant will be Mr. John Blackie, son of the Bishop of Grantham. He is a Bradford boy and mow a master, aged 28, who has travelled extensively in Europe and America. The advance agent, who will sail by the Rangitata on November 17, is Captain A. J. Wilson, who is also a Winchester College old boy. He left school in 191,5 and studied at Sandhurst. During the war he was with the 2nd Buffffs in Macedonia and afterwards spent two years on the north-west frontier. Since the war he has spent another five years in India with his regiment, the Queen’s Own Royal West Kents. The party will sail by the Rotorua oh December 22, and is due at Auckland on February 8. The vessel is to call at Suva. From Auckland the visitors will travel to Waitomo, and then probably down the Wanganui River, and so to Wellington. From Wellington they will, cross to Picton, and if time allows they, will proceed down the Buller Gorge and cross to Christchurch by the Otira Gorge. If time is limited they will travel down the east coast. From Christchurch they will go to Timaru and visit Mount Cook, whence they will motor on to Queenstown and Invercargill. Then they will .travel to Dunedin and Oamaru and visit Waitaki High School, and so on to Lyttelton ana Wellington; thence to Palmerston North, and probably by way of the National Park to Rotorua. From there they will go to Hamilton and Auckland. ; It is hoped there will be time for the boys to make a break of a few days in the South Canterbury and Hawke s Bay districts, so that they may have an opportunity of seeing something of farm life. Further details of the tour, with some possible alterations, will be arranged by Captain Wilson
