Mr. • Sampson. Of four calves taken to ;.the - finals three had gained championships. . The whole district should :be such success, when it was remembered that such a small school was competing fej against all the rest of North Tard^iki./bs: ; Commenting on the work of the boys! and girls’ -clubs, Mr. Sampson deprecated the giving of large money prizes. To . give big money prizes, was to .give wrong kind of . encouragement. The •. “ practice' had continued for a.: time when the movement was introduced into North ’ Taranaki, but the financial burden had ■ soon become too great and the: Taranaki Agricultural Society,had had toicomt to . the rescue. The society -was to: be congratulated on its efforts. The work during the past year had shown a great, improvement • and judges had .reported that ..m»y<childr«n>knfeWj/|| as much as they themselves, especially '.;' in regard to dairy type. Mr. Sampson ; 1 -./ urged the necessity of’.cheating/ terest in the farms amongst the - ren and emphasised that every endeavour must be made to kiee'p the, brhtoy. / children on the farms to stop the drift to the professions of the towns.
