HIGH SCHOOL PLAN SUPPORTED. MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the Kaimata school committee was held on Monday, those present being Messrs. J, Klenner (chairman), H. Salisbury, G. Gibbons, W. Jones and J. Cartwright. The head teacher’s report ‘ stated that the attendance for the. previous month was 5247 and the average for the term to date 51.7, Two pupils had left and f one had been enrolled, making the roll 55. An epidemic of mumps was affecting the attendance and the preparations for the school concert. The annual examination had been held and a good standard had been attained in all classes. residence had been, sown in lawn grass, and the grass was making good headway. Mr. Dill Macky visited the school, bringing seeds and manure for the field plots, and he had expressed Ips pleasure at the large number of entries , received, which constituted a record for the school. The committee unanimously supported the proposal to establish a high school •at Inglewood, as it was considered that many who were now debarred from secondary education owing to the expense of boarding or excessive distance to travel, would be able to attain it. The head, teacher stated that of this year’s pupils, two would attend the high school if established; they would not otherwise receive secondary education, owing to distance and expense of boarding. Members thought that many parents would would not otherwise bother would avail themselves of the opportunity to give their children a secondary education if the school was established. -The committee appointed Messrs. J. Klenner (chairman) and I. V, Buchanan (head teacher) as delegates to a meeting at Inglewood to arrange athletic sports for 1933. It was decided to hold the school picnic next year on similar lines to the picnic held this year. Arrangements were finalised for the holding of the school concert.
