JUNIOR RED CROSS BAZAAR.

The Okaiawa district has sustained a great loss through the death of Mr. Norman Crocker, who was. highly respected by both Maori and pakeha. Mr. Crocker was a man of sterling worth. Mrs. W. Hollis has returned home from Gisborne. Mr. E. Meuli ,is visiting Wanganui.

There is a slight improvement in the condition of Mr. J. Bailey, who has been seriously ill. A large party of young people last Thursday night paid a surprise visit to the residence of Mr. and. Mrs. W. Baker in honour of their daughter Rita’s coming-of-age. Cards, competitions, and dancing, passed away a very happy evenings Items were given by Mr. J. Walker, Mr. F.‘ Tilley, Miss I. Crosby and Miss R. Toro. Mr. R. Hooper sang, “She’s Twenty-one To-day.” A birthday cake, the work of Mrs. W. Baker, occupied pride of place oil the supper table. Mr* D. Blair on behalf of those present congratulated Miss Baker on attaining her majority and presented her with a bronze rosebowl. Mr. J. Norfolk replied on behalf of Miss Baker. Ema Ward, B. Oldfield, E. Ward, R. Williams, B. Green, M. Schwiters, M. Lindsay, Mary Lindsay, I. Crosby, R. Toro, P. Green, E. Cameron, V. Ward, B. Blair, J.. Murdoch, E. Wards and D. Hemsley. The euchre was won by Miss Elsie Ward and Mr. R. Hooper. , The effprt of the. Okaiawa branch of the Junior Red Cross, to raise funds by means of a bazaar proved a succss. Sta s were erected in the. school grounds and brisk business was done. A demonstration of Red Cross work was‘given.by girls and boys. This was followed by folk dancing on the lawn. An -. exhibition of eurythmics and other drill was given. Mr. J. C. Barclay, chairman of the local school committe and 'a member of the Taranaki Education Board, .congratulated Sister Small and the teachers on the excellent display and .mentioned how much the parents appreciated the usefulness of Red Cross . Afternoon tea was enjoyed in the garden. The produce stall was conducted by. B, Green and J. Cran, the sweets by Mavis Aflpms,. Edna Jennings and Mavis, Ritter, the fancy goods by S. Thrush, N. Hemsley, N., Walsh and G. Hackett, the soft drmks by M. Barplay and O. Jennings, the Christmas tree by M. Dundas, M. ? Cnxistiansen and E. Parsons, the . lucky dip by M. Green, T. Moses, R. Thrush-and B. Cameron, the ice cream, by B. ana N. Collins, the treasure hupt by J. Thomas, the wool competition by O. Thomas, B. Rae, the serving of afternoon tea by W. Walsdorf, T. Hackett, M.
