WAITARA GENERAL NEWS
A big crowd attended the community singing held in the Clifton Hall, Waitara, on Thursday night. Mr. B. Murgairoyd conducted and Mr. L Moa led the singing. Solos-were sung by Misses D. Ewens and R. George, Messrs. R; Langman and T. Perger. The Misses Tanners (3) gave a delightful item and a party of six Maori girls gave enjoyable poi dances. The accompaniments were played by Miss K. Frost and Mr. G. Kaipo. The Waitara C tennis team to play Norfolk Road at Norfolk Road tp-day is Brimelow, Seiwood (captain), Penman, Kent and Johnson (emergency), Misses M. Nosworthy, J. Bullen, N. Howie, J. Paulger and M. Penman. There was a large attendance at the old freezing workers’ union’s meeting on Friday morning, 160 members being present. Mr. T. Ewens (president) later stated that all present had pledged not to work at any freezing works in New Zealand until an agreement had been made between the National Council of Labour and’ the freezing companies.
