DANGEROUS DOG

BOY SAVAGELY ATTACKED. ALSATIAN SHOT BY OWNER. An Alsatian dog, whose brother was shot six months ago for attacking a young man and his mother at Ryde, near Sydney, rushed at an eight-year-old boy at Epping recently and bit him severely about the throat and face. Its owner believed that jealousy of the boy was the cause of the dog’s attack. Anthony Passmore was riding a scooter round the yard of his parents’ home when the dog rushed at him and threw him to the ground. The boy’s terrified calls for help as the dog bit his face and throat brought his mother from the house. She found the dog, which had withdrawn for a few minutes, making a second attack. She drove it away and hurried the boy into the house, where she treated his wounds with iodine. As soon as Mr. Passmore returned home he killed the animal with a shotgun. Mr. Passmore said that the attack had not caused him to lose faith in Alsatians. He said that some responsible authority should thoroughly investigate the breeding strains of dogs involved in attacks on human beings. He said he believed that the dangerous dogs belonged to some strain that could be Weeded out,, and that Alsatians could be rehabilitated in public esteem.
