CLEVER DETECTIVE WORK
JUDGE COMPLIMENTS OFFICERS.
PICTON MURDER INVESTIGATION.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, Nov. 30.
At the conclusion of the trial of Edward Tarrant, convicted of the murder of James Flood at Picton, Mr. Justice Blair invited Sub-Inspector Ward, De-tective-Sergeant Jerrold, Sergeant Peterson and Detectives Sinclair and Hall to his chambers for the purpose of personally expressing to them appreciation of the remarkable detective work accomplished. His Honour mentioned that Sir Frederick Chapman, the retired Judge, and possibly one of New Zealand’s greatest criminal judges, had expressed the opinion that the detective work displayed in the Tarrant case had made it one of the most outstanding in the story of crime in the Dominion.
His Honour stated that he intended to write to the Commissioner of Police recording appreciation of the officers’ services.
