CONVICTION OF STOCK BUYER. UNEMPLOYMENT LEVIES UNPAID. ! ■ Charged with failure to pay instalments of his unemployment levy over a period from June, 1931, to August, 1932, George Tippins was convicted and discharged upon payment of 10s., costs, by Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M., in the New Plymouth Police Court" yesterday. Mr. W. J. Berryman, who appeared for the Labour Department, said Tippins was a stock buyer whose business was affected by the Waitara freezing works dispute. When interviewed by the police on May 30 last he admitted he had not paid the instalments from June, 1931. Since then he had paid the June, August, November and February instalments, but there were still two more instalments, owing. His excuse was $
that he was “up against it,” and he promised to pay as soon as possible. Gustave George Suhr was convicted on a charge. of riding a push bicycle at Spotswood at night without a light, and was discharged upon the payment of costs amounting to 10s.
