MANY HAPPY RETURNS

POPULAR FIRM’S BIRTHDAY. To-morrow, Friday, December. 2, is the fifth anniversary of the opening, in New Plymouth, Of the business so widely known as “Halliwell’s.” On Friday, December 2, 1927, Mr. Halliwell reopened the shop—which occupied a portion of the Devon Street frontage of Kurta’s buildings, and, which including office accommodation, had a total floor space of nine hundred and eighty square feet. Early in 1928 it became obvious that larger premises would be required to provide room for the volume .of business offering, and a two-storied building was erected on King Street, thus making it possible to have an Arcade shop, from Devon to King Street, the first shop of its kind in New Plymouth. The business still continued to develop, and in April, 1930, the adjourning drapery shop was taken over by Halliwells. The premises now occupied by this progressive firm, have a total floor space, including office and bulk store rooms, of 5152 square feet. “Halliwell’s” is now a household word, not only in New Plymouth, but throughout Taranaki. A young lady just tnree years old, when asked last week what she would 'like Santa Claus to bring her, said “A telephone, please Mummy, so’s I can ring up Halliwell’s.” This business has been built up on very sound principles. The majority of the stock is either imported direct from English manufacturer’s or made in factories in our own country. Hence the buying is done in the best possible markets, and the prices to the New Plymouth public are often even lower than the prices some shops have to pay New. Zealand warehouses for their goods.. It is recognised, too, that quality, is essential to keep the goodwill of the public, and everyone is well aware that Halliwell’s have given universal satisfaction in this respect. Then service. What a happy staff and how keen each member is to do all that is humanly possible to .oblige every customer, irrespective of age or sex, dr the size of the customer’s pursel In fact, in Halliwell’s store there is nu such word as “trouble.” Here’s a business, then, built on value, courteous service,'fair dealing with the public, and a keen judgment of the public’s requirements. Combined with a bright and sahely-optimistic personality, this business have developed as it has rightly deserved to do, and the public will doubtless have very much pleasure in congratulating Messrs. Halliwell’s Limited on this their fifth birthday and whole-heartedly wish them
