Last Night ' In view of the probability of further legislative action becoming necessary before the end of the financial year, Mr. C. H. Clinkard (Co., Rotorua) asked in the House of Representatives to-day whether the Government had considered the advisability of adjourning Parliament during December? until a suitable date' in the new year, pointing Out that in. this WaSr the expense connected with the opening of a‘ further session would be avoided. The Rt. Hon. G/ W. Forbes replied that the Government had not considered the matter. Mr. Walter Nash (Lab., Hutt) asked whether the Government Would inform relatives- of soldiers who had lost their lives overseas that the War Graves Com- ■ mission had made complete provision for wreaths on graves, etc. He said ah Institution calling itself the Overseas Ex-, servicemen’s Association had distributed circulars throughout the Dominion requesting the payment of 2s 6d for a 1 certificate, also offerings- to supply wreaths for placing on the graves of New Zealand soldiers at from 3s to 7s 6d. - • • -
The Hon. A. Hamilton said he was having inquiries made and when, they were complete he would communicate with Mr. Nash. * ' ■ . ' The Local Government Officers Bill was introduced and read a first time. Replying to Mr. D. G. -Sullivan (Lab, Avon) Mr. Hamilton said the measure set up a board to conduct examination* for local body officers. It had bean introduced at the request of these officers themselves. The Bill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Local Bills Committee. . '
The Cook Islands Amendment Bill (Sir Apirana Ngata) was introduced and read a first time. The Napier Harbour Board Empowering Bill was reported from the Local Bills Committee with amendments,- and the Native Land Amendment Bill was reported from the Native Affairs. Committee with amendments.
