WAREA DISTRICT NEWS

CROQUET CLUB AND LADIES’ GUILD (From. Our Own Correspondent.) The Warea Croquet Club held its opening day at the residence of Mrs. C. Wells on Thursday. Over thirty attended, including visitors from New Plymouth, Pungarehu and Rahotu. Mrs. Wells welcomed the visitors and Mrs. White (New Plymouth) hit the first ball through the hoop. Afternon tea was served by the Warea members. On behalf of the visitors Mrs. H. Clarke (Rahotu) thanked Mrs. Wells and the club for the pleasant afternoon. Competitions played during the afternoon were won by the following: Trail, Mrs. Field; quoits, Miss F. Chapman; bell, Master John Roper; ladder, Mrs. Weaver; circle, Mrs. Bredin; French croquet, Mrs. Hawke; golf croquet, Mrs. Weaver; target, Mrs. Hawke.

The Warea ladies’ guild held a meeting in the bowlers’ pavilion on Friday afternoon.. Those present were Miss M. M. Corbett (president), Mrs. F. Sole (secretary), Mrs. J. Goodin, Mrs. R. Julian and Mrs. G. Lewis. The profit from the garden party amounted to £l6, with which it was decided to pay Warea’s quota to the vicarage fund (£l3 10s).
