MAYOR TO THE RESCUE

DIVING EXPERT IN DIFFICULTIES. London, November 9. The Mayor of Shoreditch threw off his robes and chain of office the other afternoon and rescued a diving expert, who got into difficulties at a school carnival at the local baths. The mayor, who was cheered by 600 spectators, told the Daily Mail that the diver’s life was endangered as he was half stunned. The mayor’s clothes became so heavy that he was nearly dragged under. He reached the expert and brought him to safety by life-saving methods that he had learned 40 years ago. The mayor rescued a boy from drowning when he was 11, and was awarded the Royal Humane Society’s medal.
