The Democrats will have a majority of 193 over the Republicans and the Farmer-Labour membership in the House of Representatives after March 4. The position will be Democrats 314, Republicans 116 and Farmer-Labour 5, a total of 435. The Democratic gain in the election was 93, the Farmer-Labour gain four, and the Republican loss 94. The Democrats will have a majority of 22 in the Senate, having elected 28, compared with six by the Republicans. The new Senate will comprise 59 Democrats, 36 Republicans and one Farmer-Labour.
