POLICE CASES AT NEW PLYMOUTH

The weekly sitting of the Police Court at New Plymouth yesterday was presided over by Mr. R» W. Tate, S.M. For being £54 IBs Sd in arrears with a maintenance order Basil Dalefield was sentenced to imprisonment for? one month with, hard labour, release to be granted on payment of £lO. It was stated he had paid only £2 10s since August. For driving a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 15 miles pei - hour when approaching the intersection of Currie Street with Devon Street on October 26 Kenneth Faber Footes, who pleaded' guilty, was fined £1 and 10s costs. A charge of cutting the corner of Devon Street and Liardet Street was withdrawn.

Senior-Sergeant McCrorie said the offence occurred at 11.30 p.m.

Mr. A. A. Bennett pointed out there was no traffic about at the time. The magistrate ©aid it did not appear to be a serious case. William John Dunn was fined, £1 and 10s costs for driving a lorry without a heavy traffic license in Gill Street on November 2.
