RAILING DAIRY PRODUCE

HEAVY HAWERA CONSIGNMENTS.

NEARLY 400 TONS IN ONE DAY. With the dairy season in the flush heavy consignments of dairy produce are being railed to Patea from Hawera. The daily tonnage handled exceeds 100 tons, and one day this week approached 400 tons.

Three days a week the total leaving Hawera is swelled by Opunake line consignments. This was a contributing factor to the big total of 376 tons of dairy produce railed from Hawera during the 24 hours ended yesterday morning. This figure is one of the largest recorded at Hawera, if not actually the largest. Another factor that has influenced the heavy railage of cheese this week was the recent change-over from three weeks to a fortnight of the holding period for cheese. The extra week’s accumulation had to be cleared off.

LONDON DAIRY MARKET.

BUTTER QUIET: CHEESE STEADY.

“The butter market is stagnant; quotations irregulat,” stated a London cablegram received in Hawera yesterday by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. “Improved demand expected shortly. Quotations 105 s. to 108 s., first 98s. “The cheese market is steady. Quotations, white 655. to. 605., coloured 595. to 605.”
