INGLEWOOD LILAC FAIR
PRESBYTERIAN ANNUAL EFFORT. STALLS AND CONCERT SUCCESS. ’ The Presbyterian annual lilac fair held in the Inglewood Presbyterian hall yesterday was very successful, there being a large attendance both in the afternoon and in the evening. The stalls did big trade. They were conducted by the following: Plain, Mesdames King and Ross; fancy, Mrs. Tait; country, Misses Johnston and Corncy; afternoon tea, Mesdames Muir, Knofflock and Kennedy; children’s fish pond, Mrs. Duncan; sweet stall, Mesdames R. Young and Keenan, Misses McLean and Kennedy. A cooking competition which drew large entries was organised by Mesdames Gibbs and Partridge. There were eight classes. Results are: — •Scones: Mrs. J. Young 1, Mrs. A. Weir 2, Mrs. D. Muir 3. Pikelets: Mrs. Klenner 1, Mrs. Weir 2, Mrs. Stringer h.c. Shortbread: Mrs. Muir 1, Mrs. B. Bennett 2, Mrs. Weir 3. Plain sponge: Mrs. Stringer 1, Mrs. McLean 2, Mrs. Bennett 3. Butter sponge: Mrs. Bennett 1, Mrs. Keenan 2, Mrs. Dobson 3. ' Family cake: Mrs. Stringer 1, Mrs. Wright 2, Mrs. Bennett 3. Assortment of cakes: Mrs. Wright 1, Mrs. Bennett 2.
Bread: Mrs. D. Lambert 1, Mrs. Wright 2, Mrs. Lambert 3, Mrs. Dowman h.c.
Mesdames Winter and Faris were judges. The standard of cooking was very even. The points prize was won by Mrs. Bennett (Opts.) with Mrs. Wright second (Tpts.). In the evening an enjoyable concert programme was presented, the artists including Miss F. McDonald, Miss M. Turnbull, Miss Jamieson. Mr. W. Okey, Mr. C. Blake. Mr. F. Baird, Mr. J. Ferry and “Joe,” Mr. Clelland (all of New Plymouth), Mrs. Feaver, Mrs. Buchanan, Miss Leech and Mr. F. Partridge (Inglewood). The school children sang a chorus. Mr. F. R. P. Fredric, New Plymouth, was pianist.
