BAKERS’ DISPUTE UNSETTLED
NO AGREEMENT FOR DOMINION. ‘•'EMPLOYERS’ PLAN TOO DRASTKT By Telegraph.—Trass Association. Wellington, Last Night. 'No agreement was reached in the Conciliation Council to-day when ths hearing of the industrial dispute between the New Zealand master bakers and the employees, adjourned from October 21, was continued. Though this, means the proceedings on a Dominion basis have failed the district disputes have yet to bo heard. The workers’ assessors indicated they were not prepared to give way on wages, the 48hour week and the question of junior labourers.
Mr. T. 0. Bishop was afraid . the meeting would have to agree to differ. There was no Use dodging the facts; substantial savings had to be made in the baking industry. Mr. Watson said the unions regarded the employers’ proposals as too drastic. The commissioner regretted that no agreement had been reached. A very earnest attempt had been made on both sides.
