GRAHAM CUP RACE
NEW PLYMOUTH HARRIERS RUN.;
H. BROWN ’WENNER AND CHAMPION.
The annual race held by the New Plymouth Harriers Club for- the Graham Cup was run on Saturday afternoon, H. Brorwn (scr) gaining first place and fast- ’ eet time. The course, which was shortened a little this year to about five miles, was from the racecourse to a elump of pines opposite oh Avenue Bead, round the gully behind the Boys* High School, and up through the school grounds to the racecourse again. The runners then passed behind Mr. T. C. List’s property, across Avenue Road above the railway cottages, behind the cottages to the pines again, and repeated the first round back to the finish at the racecourse. The order of finishing (with times) was: H. Brown (scr), 30m 17 s .......11 A. Eaddy (sm), 35m 27s 2 R. B. Walsham (Im. 455), 32m 35s ... : 3 T. Shepherd (4m 50s), 35m 50s .... 4 Then followed H. Kingston (2»s), R. Stewart (2m 30s), T. Gray (3m 10s), L. 0. Fox (30s), H. Capon (2m 50s), L. Thompson (4m), A. Thompson (Im 50s), R. Smith (Im 50s), V. Hodgson (sm), F. White (&n) and R. Richards (dm). There were some close finishes, the first ten being very little separated, giving evidence of good handicapping. Previous winners of the cup: 1825, C. N. Boswell; 1926, G. R. Pen warden; 1927, E. G. Penwarden; 1028, H. J. Capon; 1929, M. F. Eaddy; 1930, H. J. Brown; 1931, R. B. Walsham. The officials for the race were: Starter, Mr. A. S. Hunter; judges, Messrs. C. Croker, A. F. Warner and E. J. Hutchinson; handicapper, Mr. A. S. Hunter; time-keeper, Mr. A. S. Hunter; stewards, Messrs. _J. E. Warner and C. Head. The Graham Cup event was also the last of the series for the Te Hareroa Cup for club points during the season. The allocation of points was 4,3, 2 and 1 for first, second, third and unplaced but finishing respectively. No points are attached to championship events, and a further condition of a 7'5 per cent, attendance record at ordinary club meets is imposed. The winner for this season was H. Brown with a total of 11 points, Eaddy, Stewart and Richards with nine points each tying for second place. R. Smith (eight points), was fifth. .
