OKAIAWA .WIN TOURNAMENT.
RUGBY SHIELD TO INGLEWOOD.
The basketball season in Taranaki was brought to a fiiiccetsful close on Saturday when a tournament was held at Stratford. Ten teams were entered from the north, central and southern divisions. From the first round the games were evenly contested and were most interesting, and showed that basketball in Taranaki has reached a standard much higher than last years. The final, between West End and pkaiawa, was won by Okalawd.
Details of the games are.-— y Preliminary games: Inglewood Convent 4 beat Okaiawa B 3; West End 6 beat Midhirst 3; Hawera High'School A 9 beat Stratford Old Girls 0; Okaiawa A 4 beat Convent Blue 3; Hawera High School B 4 beat Stratford High School 1 ‘ First semi-finals: West End 11 beat Inglewood Convent 9; Okaiawa A 5 beat Hawera High School A 2; Hawera High School B a bye. Second semi-finals: Okaiawa 5 beat Hawera High School B 2. Final; Okaiawa 7 beat West End 5. Referees and officials for. the tournament were Mrs. Kohn, Misses Abraham, Britland, Harper, Thompson, Riordan, Sheat, Smythe and Tarry and Mr.
Blair. ■ ?i*> The primary school championship was played. Toko 4 defeated Stratford 2 in a semi-final for-which Mrs. ; Kohn refereed, and Inglewood won B—38 —3 in the final against Toko. Mies Riordan refereed. Inglewood thus won the Rugby Shield.
