BV Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.

Melbourne, Sept. 16.

The shares of The Granite Gold Company, paid to £l, rose to £42 on the Stock Exchange to-day. This spectacular jump followed reports that options had been secured over 14 leases by a gold prospecting party. These shares were £lB at the close of business on Wednesday and £lO on Tuesday.

An earlier cable stated that Laesetter’s ’tragic expedition to Central Australia was recalled by the news of a rich gold discovery at The Granite, 400 miles north-west of Alice Springs. This was believed to be the field sought by the ill-fated prospector. Prospectors now in possession of the field claim that the lode is six miles long. They have already won 300. ounces of gold.
