UNITED STATES BEAT BRITAIN,

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, Sept. 2.

At Brookline the United States tejim retained the Walker Cup to-day by beating the English challengers. The final score for the 12 matches was United States 9J points, Britain 2J. The United States won eight matches, Britain one and three matches were halved. Leonard Crawley, a British schoolmaster, won the only British victory, beating George Voight one up on the thirtysixth green.

Leonard Crawley is the present English clo-se champion, and the holder of the President’s Putter of the Oxford and Cambridge Society. As a successful fighter of seemingly most causes, Crawley is incomparable, and because of his indomitable will he is a most desirable player in a contest in which pluck is as great an asset as skill. John de Forest, winner of the British amateur championship, was a member of the British team.
