Auckland, Sept. 3.
Nineteen Chinese who Were arrested in a police raid yesterday appeared in the Folice Court to-day. Ah Jim, aged 33, who admitted being the occupier of the premises, was fined £5O. Eighteen others who were found in the place were fined thfe minimum of £l2 10s each. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that the same place Was raided a few weeks an-o, when detectives chopped th'cir way through the roof. The owners of the ptemisee ’had now padlocked the build•n<r so the Chinese Would have to find another place. "If counsel says that most of these men are addicts and must have opium all I S'ay is that they should migrate to another country,” said DtetectiVe-Ser-geant Kelly.
