Mr. Frank Jackson, Auckland, is on a business trip to New Plymouth and is staying at the Hotel Imperial. Mr. E. B. Ellerm, librarian Of the Leys Institute- library, Auckland, is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. J. C. Hall, once first assistant master at the Wai tara. State school and now headmaster at Tikokino, Hawke’s Bay, is'spending a short holiday in North Taranaki.

The appointment is announced of Miss E. R. Edwards, headmistress of the Hamilton Diocesan School, as headmistress of the Auckland Diocesan School, states a Press Association message. Miss Edwards was educated at Nelson Girls’ College, Victoria College and Cambridge, Holder of the Patron’s Medal of the Royal Geographical Society, Mr.~ C. H. Karius, Resident Magistrate at Kokodu, Papua, arrived at Wellington by the Maunganui from Sydney. . Mr. Karins, who is accompanied by his wife, was honoured by the society for exploration work carried out in New Guinea two years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Karlus are paying a holiday visit to New Zealand. They left on Tuesday for Dunedin.

Mr. G. M. Spence, former president of the New Plymouth Aero Club, was elected a. life member at last night’s annual meeting of the club. Air, A. 11.I 1 . Sandford, president, spoke of Mr. Spence’s valuable services to the club’. The members appreciated that the position the club was in was largely due to the energy and foresight of Mr. Spence and the manner in which ho controlled its activities. Mr. S. E. Nielson, the secretary, said if any other member mensured up to the same high standard as Mr. Spence and was elected a life member ,the club would receive the greatest, assistance from the services ho would have to render. Mr. Spence always gave his services wholeheartedly for the club, and it was largely through him that the Western Federation was formed. It was owing to Mr. Spence’s energy, too, ho thought, that the New Zealand. Aero Club had como into recognition as a live body.
