Rec. 10 p.m. . Sydney, Aug. 10. The hockey carnival was continued at the University Oval to-day in fine weather; New Zealand defeated -South Australia by 13 to nil. South Australia were playing New Zealand for the first time in the history of the game. They were outclassed. New Zealand gave a great .forward display and defence, Bay, Turbitt and-Andrews revelling: in goalhitting. . ■. . ■ i- i Reid, a New Zealand forward, retired hurt,. requiring two -stitches over the left eye. Welbourne replaced him and excelled himself on the - hard ground. Munro, the captain, played full-back in the second half; Spiers, the crack back, anprecedently played at centre half, hoping to score. Ewan and Bollard playing at half, scored, indicating a weak defence, also that the South Australian forwards were inexperienced.' The game was not treated very seriously in the second half. _ „ , The scorers for New Zealand were Bay (five), Turbitt (three), Andrews (two), Reid, Ewan and Bollard. A hard game is expected to-morrow for the New Zealanders against Western Australia. The test team will be announced on Friday and the game will be broadcast on Saturday at 3.40»p.m. (Australian time). , . • New South Wales defeated Victoria by 3 to 1 after a hard, fast game?
