DAIRY PRODUCTION HIGH

NORTH TARANAKI’S YEAR

COMPARISON WITH LAST YEAR.

FIGURES PRACTICALLY THE SAME

MOTUROA COMPANY’S RECORDS.

The practically negligible decrease of 0.07 per cent, in the total amount of butter-fat represented in the produce handled at the Taranaki Producers’ Freezing Works at Moturoa is reported for the past season as compared with the amount handled during the previous season. The amount of cheese and butter received for storage in the previous year was the highest in the history of the company. As the company handles all the butter and cheese in the northern end of' the province it is plain that production in North Taranaki has been well maintained during the past season.

In the aggregate figures for the produce handled tor the company’s year, which ended on June 30, butter showed a decrease of 33,992 boxes, or a fall of 10.09 per cent, over the butter produced in the previous year. This decrease, however, was the logical outcome of the swing over in the province to Consequently cheese shows an increase of 21,033 crates, or an increase in cheese production over the previous season of 9.03 per cent. The company commenced the season with a balance in store of 41,300 boxes of butter and 11,226 crates of cheese, states the report of the chairman, Mr. J. Brown, which will be placed before the 31st annual general meeting of shareholders later in the month. Of butter there were received during the year 302,995 boxes (being a decrease from the previous year’s quantity of 33,992). There were shipped overseas 305,196 boxes. (257,601 to London and 47,595 to West' of England), and 9947 were disposed of within the Dominion, leaving in store 32,452 boxes on June 30, 1932.

Of cheese, there were received during the twelve months 253,895 crates (being an increase of 21,033 over the previous year). There were shipped overseas 240,678 crates (189,312 to London, and 51,366 to We£t of England), and 476 Were disposed of locally, leaving in store on June 30, 1932, 23,907 crates.

During the season the building programme contemplated in the previous year’s report had been carried to cotopletion by the insulation of the thirdstorey of the previous addition, and the erection and insulation of a further three-storey addition to the cheese store. That additional accommodation for cheese was rendered necessary owing to the conversion of a number of cheese chambers to butter storage. The financing of the building programme was satisfactorily arranged with the company’s bankers by overdraft accommodation, thus avoiding the necessity for calling on shareholders ■ for any moneys. The total capacity of the works for daily stacking was now 90,100 boxes of butter and 93,700 crates of cheese.

The profit and loss . ccount showed a credit balance of £127 14s 6d on the year. At the annual meeting the share? holders will be required to elect three directqts in place of Messrs. J. Brown, A. Morton and W. C. Green, who are retiring rotationally arid will be eligible for re-election.
