SCHOOL SOCIAL AND FOOTBALL. Favoured with perfect weather the. Hillsborough School Committee'll social and dance on Tuesday was a great success, there being numerous visitors from New Flymouth as ’well as surrounding districts. In the early part of the evening items w r ere given by the children arid were very much appreciated, showing hard and thorough tuition on the part of the teachers. The latter part of the evening was given over to dancing and euchre. Songs were sung by Miss Johnson and Mr. Fenwick. The winners of the euchre Were Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. S. Sampson, Mr. G. Upston and Mr. S. Sampson. There were 16 tables in play. A cake was won by Mrs. Throssell, with Mrs. VV. C. Stanley second. Mr. R. Bishop thanked all those present for the way they had helped and stated that owing to numerous requests it had been decided to hold another such evening in the near future. The music for the dancing -was played by Martin’s orchestra and Messrs. Anderson. Barriball and'Bishop were masters of ceremonies. On Tuesday afternoon the Hillsborough footballers received a visit from their old rivals, .Tarurutangi, and after a. close but rather ragged game the home team came through the winners by 12 points to six. Stanley Sampson and Tocker scored and Tocker kicked a. penalty goal for the winners, while R. Street and Bunning scored for the losers.
