BRUTAL MURDER AT SYDNEY
GOVERNMENT OFFERS REWARD. HUNT FOR MISS WHITE’S SMYER. By Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 11.5 p.m. Sydney, Aug. 4. The Government is offering a reward of £250 for information leading to the apprehension of the murderer of Hilda Whjte, aged 33, whoso body was found in Centennial Park close to the city on July 27 with many marks of violence on the head and neck. Subsequent examination by the Government medical officer disclosed that the victim had been subjected to brutal handling and possibly outraged before being strangled with a portion of her own underclothing. Miss White attended a picture show on the night of July 26 and was apparently forcibly carried off in a motor-car to the park, where there were many evidences of her struggles before her death. Miss White is reported to have corns to Sydney from Auckland four and ahalf years ago with her mother, sister and brother. Since the murder the Auckland police have been making wide inquiries but are understood to have failed to establish her relationship with any person in that city. Other inquiries at Auckland have failed to reveal any resident of the name °f Hilda White in the city at the time mentioned and no trace of her has been discovered.
