Voting papers connected with the election to 'fill two vacancies on the Taranaki Education Board were opened yesterday, with the result that Mr, W. B. Glasgow was returned to fill the vacancy ,in the north ward caused through the resignation of Mr. P, J. H, White,' and Mr. W. H. jopes regained his seat for the urban area of New Plymouth, There was po election ip the central or south wards, for which Messrs. J. A. Valentine and A. Reefs were respectively returned unopposed. Details of the poll supplied by the re? turning officer (Mr- H- W. Ipsull) are:-* North Ward. Votes. Glasgow, William Bernard • ••*. 162Griffin, Thomas James 93 Total ,355 Informal 7 Majority for Glasgow 69 New Plymouth Urban Area. • Coleman, Fred Archer 22 Jones, William Henry 26 Thomeon, John Muir 6 Total * 54 Majority f°r Jones 4 Mr. Glasgow, a solicitor, is chairman of th© Wajtata School Committee. Mr- Jones, a builder, has served four years on the Education Board already. He in chairman of the West End school committee.
The use of American slang in New Zealand was deplored by Stratford speakers in a debate at New Plymouth last night, The argument was refuted by Mr. K- Staunton, however, “If we in Taranaki used *more slang and l ess bad language it would he better for everybody,” *he said, amidst laughter.
