DANGER OF DISEASE SPREADING. SOUTH TARANAKI FARMERS’ VIEW ' The South Taranaki provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union met at Hawera yesterday, Mr. E. J. Betts presiding oVer a large attendance of blanch delegates. A comprehensive paper- on foot ana mouth disease prepared by the union’s New Zealand executive from a discussion by' the New Zealand Veterinary Association, together with particulars from the Live-stock Division of the Department of Agriculture, was read. The nature of the disease, the time and survival of the virus about and m the animal, the possibility of carriers among cattle, carriage by other means, the regulations in Britain governing exports and those in New Zealand governing imports, were the sections into which the paper was divided. •The meeting decided to adhere to its original decision vigorously to- oppose any move towards the relaxation of restrictions regarding the importation of stock to the Dominion. TE NGUTU GOLF CLUB. TEAM TO PLAY AGAINST HAWERA. The following Te Ngutu Golf Club team will play at Hawera during the week-end, commencing at 9 a.m.: Hollis, Stevenson, G. FRASER ROAD NEWS. JUNIOR W.D.F.U. BRANCH ' FORMED. Last week the young women of, Eraser Road met Mrs. C. C. Jackson, the Dominion president of the W.D.F.U., and formed a junior branch. Mrs. Vickridge introduced Mrs.. Jackson, who. explained the aims and possibilities of the formation of such a branch. Officers were elected as follows: President, Miss M. Johnson; vice-presidents, Misses E. Sanderson and K. McNeil, secretary and treasurer, Miss R. Edgecombe. ■ .The first meeting was held on luesday. With enthusiasm as the key-note, the making of articles out of old felt hats and decorating with stencilling formed the main activity. Folk dancing and a competition concluded a most successful meeting.

Karloff, in his characterisation of the man monster, wears make-up weighing 48 pounds in itself. Colin Clive, of Journey’s End” fame, was brought expressly'from London to enact the scientist.
