VICTORIA LEAGUE
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The executive committee of the Victoria League, New Plymouth, held, its monthly meeting on Monday, the president ’(Mrs. A. C. H. Collins) being in the chair. The book committee reported that three cases and five parcels were packed during the month, containing 269 books. iFooks were sent to relief camps at Uruti and Puniwhakau, and several letters of thank© had been received. Requests for reading matter wer© received from Uruti and Ohura. The committee would be most grateful for reading matter suitable for relief camps. The house committee reported that two floral teas were held during July, ans that' the “at home” to entertain new members on July 11 was a most successful evening, A floral tea will be held to-day, when the Fitzroy Croquet Club will act as hostesses. This year August 19 will be Daffodil Day and a most enjoyable day of reunion for town and country members js anticipated. There will be produce, cake, jumble, sweets, work and flower stalls. The play-reading circle reported that the next ‘ “open” evening would be on August 25, and that “The Far Off Hills” was read at the evening on July 21. The Whakarato branch reported tliat the members were working steadily and had received most appreciative letters from the district nurses at Mokau and Whangamomona, to whom they had sent garments for distribution. The sewing circle is now busy making dainty articles for the' work stall on Daffodil Day. Eleven new members . were’ elected.
