GREAT ARCH OF CTESIPHON.— Situated about twenty-five miles downstream from Bagdad, on the eastern bank of the Tigris. It is the only surviving portion of the famous “white palace of Chrosroes I., built in A.D. 531. The vicinity was the scene of fighting during the Great War.
