PERSONAL AND GENERAL. At a meeting of the Gymnastic Club, presided over by Mr. J. N. Stephenson, it was decided to hold a wrestling tournament at an early date. Okaiawa and Hawera wrestling enthusiasts intimated that they ■would give every assistance. The Opunake Dairy Company commenced the new season’s manufactuie of cheese yesterday. Tho members of the Federal Band on •Friday evening farewelled Mr. W. McNeill, who has been a member of the band from its inception, also a member of the old Opunake Band. The president, Mr. F. Julian, said he regretted the departure of one of their oldest and keenest bandsmen. On behalf of the band he presented the guest with a writing outfit. Mr. J. Humphries, bandmaster, reviewed the early history of brass bands at Opunake and the prominent part played by Mr. McNeill. Songs, instrumental solos and duets were given during the evening. Mr. J. Hooker played at the piano. The last euchre and crib party of the second series in aid of. the Catholic Church funds was held in St. Patricks Hall on Friday evening- _ There was a good attendance. The crib tournament was won by Mr. J. Morris, with Mr. G. Holmes sen. second. The points prize went to Mr. W. Woolford. The prizewinners for the euchre were Miss Newman 1, Mrs. J. Geary 2; Mr. B. Duffy 1, Mr. E. Holmes 2. The points prizes were won by Mrs. R. McCullum and Mr. Gibson. The Convent School basketball team defeated the Pihama team by 11 to nil. The match was played at the Convent School grounds on Friday afternoon. Mr. Johnson, a carpenter working on tho Okahu bridge, met ’with an accident last week. A plank fell on his foot and he continued working, the cold numbing any pain. In the evening at home the warmth brought pain and medical advice was obtained. Mr. Johnson was ordered to the New Plymouth Hospital.
