PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL EVENING. PUBLIC SCHOOL CONDUCTS MART. A successful function was held in the Presbyterian Hall on Friday night under the auspices of the,Bible Class and Ladies’ Guild. The evening was passed in games, competitions and items by various artists. Mrs. Buchanan sang two songs and gave two elocutionary items, Mr. W. J. Smith sang and Miss Weir gave numerous Scotch dances. A one-act play, ‘‘Dear Departed,” was well executed by Mrs. McLean as Amelia, Mrs. Partridge as Elizabeth, Miss Lindsay as Victoria, Mr. D. Sutherland as Henry, Mr. M. Fenwick as Ben,. Mr. K. Braybrooke as Mr. Merry weather. The act was produced by Mrs. Braybrooke, who .deserved great credit for the way in which it was played. Supper was provided by the. ladies. A mart in aid of the public school funds was held on Reesby’s corner on
Saturday. The mart did a flourishing business* and by 2 o’clock all the goods were sold Competitions resulted; Glock, Mrs. Vai Penn; dinner, Mr. W. J. Smith; cake (large), Mrs. G. C. Tait; cake (small), Miss R. Gernhoefer* The school funds benefit by £l7 155,. which is gratifying to ,the people controlling the mart. LINCOLN ROAD NEWS. ' A euchre party and dance was held in the Lincoln Road Hall on Friday night. The prize winners were Mrs. W. Paul and Mr. D. Sarten. Music was played by Mr. A. E, Winter. Mr. C. Corfield is in the New Plymouth public hospital. Miss P. Mehrtens, who has been stay- . ing with her sister at Lepperton, has returned home. Mr. E. Williamson, Hangatiki, i* spending a. holiday in the district.
