HOSPITAL BOARD DECISION.

MR. BRIDGER & CHARITABLE AID

To ignore the correspondence appearing in the Press -regarding the complaint from the Mayor of Eltham (Sfr. Ira J. Bridger) on a- charitable aid matter, was the decision of the Hawera, Hospital Board at yesterday's meeting. Discussion took place in qoipmitteee, members being of the opinion that the charitable aid officer (Mrs.. Twaddle) had acted within her jurisdiction. It was considered that any complaint should have come directly to the board.

HAWERA REST ROOM PLANS.

GEO. SYME MEMORIAL BUILDING-

The bequest of £5OO under the will of the late Mr. George Syme, ■■ Hawe.ra, will be utilised for a rest room in '.the water tower grounds, plana, for which have now been drawn up. The balance of the cost will be met by a borough council subsidy. . The late Mr. Syme left the money for the practically unconditional use of the council, the only provision being that his name should be associated with the purpose for which it was utilised. The management of the room w’ill be in the hands of the Women’s National Reserve.

A simple and modern design has been chosen for the building, which will front on High Street and will stand back in the grounds about 60 feet. The plans provide for a large entrance verandah leading into a main rest room, twenty feet by eighteen feet, off which will be a lounge fifteen feet by twelve, both rooms having large, double windows opening towards the street. On the opposite side is planned a children’s verandah, ■ fifteen feet- by twelve, and room is provided for a large-sized kitchenette. The interior will be finished "in fibrous plaster,, but the actual outside finish has not been definitely decided, and alternative materials are to be provided for by the. tenderers. The roof will be of corrugated iron. TE NGUTU GOLF CLUB. TROPHIES FOR THE LADIES. ' Eadies of the Te Ngutu Golf Club will participate in a flag match tomorrow for a trophy presented by Mrs. Luxton. The final meetings of a series throughout the week in the Manaia Methodist Church were held on Thursday and Friday nights, the Rev. E? S. Emmitt, Hawera, being the preacher. His Thursday address was on the subject of ‘‘Christ’s influence in. a man who genuinely believes,” q,nd was forcefully applied and illuminated with chosen illustrations. Mrs. Hartman was soloist. Mr. Emmitt’s subject on Friday evening was progress as against stagnation, both in the national and individual sense. The futility of, a life wholly absorbed in th traffic of the world was illustrated and the importance of ever-unfolding personality through communion' with the Unseen was stressed. Solos were sung by the speaker and . Mr. S. Blyde.
