SPORT AND SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.

A very successful euchre and dance party was held in the Ratapiko hall on Monday night.'in aid of the sports candidate Miss Vera Hall. About £5 was added to the funds. Mr. Fred Hill was master of ceremonies and splendid music was supplied by Mrs. Janies, Miss J. Dravitzki, Miss J. Young, Miss V. Hall and Messrs. Gannaway, Hall and Hill. Mr. D. Therkleson controlled the euchre tournament and Miss Mary Burkett and Mr. E. Grigg were the winners. It is the committee’s intention to hold these parties each week and a points prize is to be awarded at the end of the season. Competitions held during the evening were won by Mr. G. Knowles and Mr. C. Hall. Supper was served under the direction of Mrs. C. Hall. The school football team travelled to Waitui on Friday to play the third match in the competition and were victorious by 42 points to nil. Tries were scored by Joe Martin, Bill Corlett, Alan Martin, Peter Gannaway, Mick K klinski and Jack Corbett. Mr. W. Martin and Mr. M. Kuklinski conveyed the boys to Waitui. The team were very hospitably ' treated to tea in the Waitui hall, Mr. Martin returning thanks on behalf of the boys. The shield football team is gaining form and in a. practice match against Surrey Road won by 28 points 3. Mr.

Jack Wells had charge of the whistle. In the first spell Surrey Road, who were a much heavier team, managed to hold their own, but after half time the lighter Ratapiko team, showing much superior combination, piled on the points. Mrs. Barrack is the guest of Miss D. Hill, Ratapiko. Mrs. Tuck, senr., Lincoln Road, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Norman Downs; Mrs. Downs, senr., was a visitor to Ratapiko during the -week. Mr. Telfer, Mr. Kuklinski and. Mr. Gannaway were judges in the root-grow-ing competitions, particulars of which are not yet to hand. The Ratapiko footballers are to hold a dance on Wednesday night. Mr. H. Martin, the secretary, has arrangements complete and a good time is assured patrons.
