RESULTS OF CARD MATCHES.

There . was a good attendance at the fortnightly meeting of the Kaimata Card Club on Tuesday night, 12 tables being occupied. A noteworthy feature of the evening was that the first prize winners gained 15 of the 18 games played. The prize-winners were Mrs. J. Moratti (15 games) 1, Mrs. H. Jones (14J games) 2, Miss Jones (12 games) 3, Miss S. Dobson consolation after cutting with Mrs. G. Gibbins; Mr. B. Hartigan (.15 games) 1, Mr. F. Cook (14J games) 2, Mr. G. Peters (14| games) 3, Mr. L. Blackbourn consolation. A guessing competition was won by Mr. D. Bracegirdle. The monthly meeting of the Kaimata school committee was held on Tuesday evening, those present being Messrs. J. Klenner (chairman), H. Salisbury, G. Gibbins, W. Jones and J. Cartwright. The head teacher reported that there had been eight withdrawals and thj-ee admittances ‘since the beginning of the term, making the roll 57. The attendance had. been affected by influenza. The school was visited by the agricultural supervisor and the truant inspector during the month. At the New Plymouth show the school secured nine prizes, and at the Hawera show ■ four prizes were received for the . four entries exhibited. The chairman complimented the teachers on their successes at the shows.

On Friday afternoon the school football and basketball teams visited Tariki to. play the Tariki children, in the Inglewood district schools’ competition. The Kaimata children won the football by 15 points to nil and- lost the basketball by 27 to 8. The scorers for Kaimata at football were J. Herlihy (two field goals, one not allowed by the referee), S. Clark (two tries), L. Salisbury (one try). J. Bennett converted a try. Mr, Gush controlled the game. .The Kaimata district experienced a very severe frost on Thursday morning. Several taps were frozen and the force pump on the property of Mr. Thorby, supplying water to the factory, was completely shattered as the result of ice forming inside it. The company will be put to considerable expense to replace the pump. Mr. and Mrs. ,E. Waters, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. Sheppard, have returned to Wairarapa. Mrs. J. Dobson, who slipped while carrying a kettle of boiling water a few days ago, scalding her right arm severely, is progressing satisfactorily. Mr. H. Jones, who has been visiting Palmerston North, has returned home. .-Mr. G. Gibbius has gone to Rataehi on holiday. Messrs. H. and G. Burwell have returned from Auckland, where they have been spending a holiday. Mr. W. Jones is laid up with a broken bone in his foot.

A schoolgirl,Winnie Collingwood, received a severe gash on her forehead on Thursday. While running she collided with a broom held by another girl.

The Kaimata senior basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season qn Saturday, being defeated by Moas by 5 to 3.

A football match during the week-end between a combined team from Purangi and Tarata and Kaimata, played at Kaimata, resulted in a win for the home team after a very even game by. six points to three —two tries to a penalty kick. The scorers for Kaimata were R. Luckin and H. Klenner. Neither of the tries was converted.
