BILLY BOYS WORKSHOP.
AN EASILY MABE KNIFE BOX. To make this, knife box you will require some three-eighths-inch ■ wood for'the sides, ends and centre division; and a piece of quarter-inch plywood for the bottom.
1 The sides "‘are 12in. long and two inches wide, and the ends are the same width, but Bfin. long. Carefully plane these parts on sides and- edges, then mark out the centre slot across each end piece, as indicated in Diagram C. Saw down these lines to a depth of oneeighth of an inch and chisel out the slots.
For , the centre division, saw a piece of wood to the sizes given in Diagram B, and after planing all over, mark out the curved shape of the top. To form the hand hole, make two holes with a 5-inch centre-bit and.cut away the wood
between them. Smooth the edges of the hole with glasspaper, then roughly cut the curved top to shape with a padsaw and chisel. Finish the edge with a rough file and glasspaper. Fix the sides and ends of the box together as shown in Diagram A,coating the joints with glue, and driving fine wire nails or panel pins through the ends into the sides. Take care to see that the top and bottom edges are straight, and that the sides and ends are square. Cut the plywood for the bottom 13in. long and Sin. wide, and well rub the edges with glasspaper. Fix this part in place with nails driven through it into the sides and ends.. Glue the ends of the centre division in the slots, and fix it with three countersunk screws driven in through the bottom. Fancy edging, known as half-round ball beading, can be glued and pinned to the edges of the box, as shown in the first diagram. An enlarged view of a piece of this beading is shown at D. Coat the finished box with varnish stain of any desired colour. Th© Hut Car center.
