SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING.
HOT COCOA FOR CHILDREN.
The monthly meeting of the Urenui school committee was held on Wednes day, when Mr. C. W. Henwood presided. The head-teacher reported that tne school resumed after the first term holidays with a roll number of 74, and the average attendance since resuming had been 68.1. During the first week Mi. D. Mackay, senior agricultural instructor, and Mr. Dill Macky, assistant instructor, visited the schoo. to weigh and judge the respective school _ club plots of mangolds. The best plot yielded at the rate of over 47 tons to the acre. These results were considered very goowhen it was remembered that no specially selected land was used. The headteacher was particularly pleased with the fine show of work on the school grounds, and thanked parents who attended the working bee. , It was resolved to distribute hot cocoa at lunch time during the winter. The charge was fixed at 3s per week. It was decided to hold another working bee in the school grounds on Saturday.
DOMAIN BOARD MEETING.
TOTAL CREDIT EXCEEDS £lOO.
The annual meeting of the Urenui Domain Board was held recently. In the absence of Mr. R. H. Pigott (chairman), who is still in hospital, Mr. b. Topless (deputy-chairman) presided. Mr. Topless, on behalf of the grounds committee, detailed the work done in reclaiming and breaking in a further six acres of swamp. The area was sown down in grass and it was considered that the results obtained would justify the expense. A set of rules to govern the camping area drawn up by the Seaside Society was submitted and approved. The balance-sheet for the year ended March 31 showed a credit balance of £9B 12s lOd. Receipts from various sources amounted to £53 7s 6d, and the expenditure was £43 Is lid. The credit balance in the bank was £IOS ISs od. Sympathy was accorded Mr. Pigott in his long illness. The board was pleased to note that he was making satisfactory progress, and hoped that he would soon be restored to health. The following officers were elected tor the ensuing vear:—Chairman, Mr. R. H. Pigott; secretary, Mr. C. H. Wilson;
"rounds committee, Messrs S. Topless, S. A. Managh and C. H. Wilson. GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The weekly cribbage tournament was held in the hall on Monday, when there was a record attendance. Mrs. N. Dempster, with seven games, won the ladies prize, and Mr. E. Rogers won the mens prize with seven games after a re-play with Mr. G. Clark. i , Messrs James and George Cotter, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Freeth, have returned to PalnalMr. D. Sutton. Mokau, who has been spending a few lays at “Ngahiwr,’ has returned. , Miss Anderson, who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. 6. Topless, has left for Tauranga. Mr. A. White, Palmerston North, who has been spending a few days with his brother, Mr. T. M. White, has returned. Mr. W. (Kiri) Sangster, an old identity of Urenui and now residing in Aria, is ‘the guest of Mr. E. G. Bleakley.
