LOVELOCK’S NEW RECORD
37-YEAR-OLD RECORD BEATEN. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. London, June 11. The New Zealand runner J. E. Lovelock broke the 37-year-old world record for three-quarters of a mile at the Civil Service sports at Stamford Bridge to-day in 3min 2 Lssec, with a brilliant run in which he forged ahead on the back straight. The track was measured and it was found that Lovelock had run nearly three feet over the threequarters of a mile. The Frenchman J. Ladoumegue has done the distance in 3min 0 3-ssec, but the international federation has not yet passed that record. Lovelock started from scratch and finished fourth.
Racing at New York in 1895 T. P. Coniieff did the 1320 yards in 3min 2 4-ssec, a time which was not bettered until La Doumegue’s effort in France last year.
