PUNGAREHU INGLESIDE
CALEDONIAN SOCIETY VISIT.

Ever since the announcement, several months ago, that an ingleside was to be held in the Pungarahu hall excitement has been great as sjich. a form of entertainment is a novelty in the district. On Thursday the New Plymouth Caledonian Society sent a party to the hall to conduct ft dance, and by 8 p.m. a Iftrgo crowd had assembled to be thrilled upon the arrival of pipers and party shortly afterwards.
Mr. W. A Corbett, chairmap of the hall society, welcomed the visitors, expressing the -pleasure it gave to all to see them. Chieftain A. Rankin replied on behalf of th® Caledonian Society. The hall was packed by the time the music pt th® pipers heralded the grand march which opened proceedings. From that time the minutes flew swiftly by as some entered gaily into dances that they were well accustomed to or as others Went through the mazes of reels, etc. However, all signs of nervousness soon departed owing to the. kindly manner of the members in assisting novices. Mr. Corkill as master of ceremonies kept dance following danpe in rapid succession, while excellent “oifl?time” music was plaved by Martjn’s orchestra. .The introduction of the haggis was carried out with true dignity. Burns “Ode to the Haggis” was recited by Mr. Reid, / During the evening Mr. A- Cliarteris and Miss Myra Abram danced the double sword dance and an encore was demanded. Mrs. Keys delighted with Irish jigs jm'd responded with encores. ‘Ap excellent supper was provided, and dancing continued till the early hours.
