Mr J Corder has been reelected chairman ’of' the Waimea County Council, says a Nelson Press Association message. Lord Strickland, Premier of Malta, has been elected to represent the Maltese nobility in the Senate, states a cable from Malta.

Mr J. A. Pettigrew was yesterday elected chairman of the Opunake Harbour Board. Mr. T. P. Hughson, who has occupied the position for 19 yimrs, declined renomination owing-to pressure of business.

Mr A. H. Sinel, manager of the Auckland branch of the New Zealaaid Shipping Company, has received advice of hrs appointment to the position of traffic manager for New Zealand, and manager of the company’s Wellington branch, says an Auckland Press Association message. The death has occurred at Wanganui of Mr Joseph Ruscoe, one of the district’s'early” settlers. Born in Bilston, Staffordshire, England, in December, 1855, he later came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Oliver Lang, in 1856. The deceased lived in Wanganui and surrounding districts all his life. During his early days he was farming on the Brunswick and. later at Mars Hill, No. 2 Line. He also held a license for the Masonic Hotel, Wanranui, and the Turakina Railway Hotel, which was recently burnt down. The late Mr. Ruscoe was predeceased by 'his wife by nearly four years. A family of nine are left to mourn, Mr. J. Ruscoe, and Mrs. H. J. Duffy, T. Ruscoe, and W. Ruscoe, Mrs. A. B. Currin, Mr. R. Ruscoe, Miss E. Ruscoe, Mr. J. Ruscoe, and Mrs. H. J. Duffy. At the meeting of the management commitee of the Taranaki Rugby Union last night opportunity was taken to congratulate Messrs. R. Clarke (Okaiawa) and A. Collins (Stratford) on having been chosen as All Blacks. In making each of them a presentation of a travellin°’ rug Mr. J. McLeod, chairman of the union, pointed out that they were following a line of illustrious players from Taranaki, but none of them had greater promise than the two latest All Blacks. With the experience gained in this trip they should have an excellent opportunity of securing a trip to England in a year or two. Mr. W. A. Guy said he was sure both players would uphold the reputation of Taranaki both on and off the field. Mr. R. Clarke, who was present, acknowledged, the presentation, while the Stratford members will convey the felicitations of the union to Mr. Collins, who was unable to be present.
